Everything in the studio

One window: build the mechanism, run it, read the numbers, export the figure. Free is for testing the physics: build, run, step and scrub. Items marked Pro are part of Pro; in the studio they show a padlock on Free.

Build

Everything you need for a mechanics problem, placed with a click and snapped to surfaces.

  • Bodies and supports

Circles, boxes, polygons, wedges, your own outlines; grounds and walls at any angle; pin, fixed and sliding supports; slots and guides; liquids that buoy.

  • Ropes, cables and pulleys

Ideal cables and ropes with mass, wrapped over pulleys, with capstan friction and tension you can read.

  • Springs, rods, bars and joints

Pin joints, welds, sliders, coil springs and dampers, rigid rods and bars for trusses.

  • Gears and drives Pro

Spur gears, ring gears and racks that mesh tooth by tooth; belts and roller chains; thrusters.

  • Slice, edit points and parts Pro

Cut bodies with a line, edit any polygon's corners, and save a mechanism as a part to reuse.

Simulate and analyse

A fixed time step, SI units and exact joints: the classic problems are tested against their textbook formulas.

  • Time bar

Scrub through the run, step frame by frame, go to a time, make now t = 0.

  • Graphs and the data table Pro

Plot any quantity live, add formula columns with units, statistics and theory curves, export CSV.

  • Free-body diagrams and member forces Pro

Every force on a body, drawn and labelled; truss members coloured by tension and compression.

  • Python in the browser Pro

Build scenes in loops, control a body every step, run experiments: sandboxed, nothing to install.

  • Parameter sweeps and Monte Carlo Pro

Vary a value over a range, run the scene for each and tabulate or plot the results. Or scatter values at random and get each result as mean ± standard deviation, with error bars.

Figures

Line art in the style of classic dynamics books, exported as vectors so it stays sharp in print.

  • Labels and LaTeX Pro

Italic labels that follow their bodies, with LaTeX in any label.

  • Figure annotations Pro

Dimension arrows, angle arcs, coordinate frames, centre lines, gravity arrows, stroboscopic snapshots, bevel and worm gear drawings.

  • SVG, PDF, PNG and TikZ Pro

The figure as you see it, as a vector file or as TikZ code that compiles in LaTeX.

  • Video and GIF Pro

Record the motion in figure style for slides and lectures.

Teaching

The same model gives the lecture animation, the exam figure and the answer.

  • Presenter mode Pro

The scene full screen with large controls; annotations appear step by step.

  • Exam variants Pro

Random values for chosen parameters, every variant simulated, and a LaTeX exam with solutions and an answer key.

  • Courses

Share a template library with a whole course. Paid per course or seat, by invoice.

Templates and library

Start from a classic problem instead of a blank page.

  • 60+ official templates

Projectiles, Atwood machines, pendulums, collisions, gear trains, trusses and more, in ten topics.

  • My Assets Pro

Your own library of scenes, projects, parts and scripts, on this device and in the cloud.

  • Community marketplace Pro

Scenes, parts and scripts made by other users, and publishing your own.

The Ordinate 2D studio: a pendulum hanging from a trolley drawn as a textbook figure, with the scene tree, an energy graph and the simulation settings around it.
