Changelog

What changed, version by version.

The newest version is at the top. Ordinate 2D is in beta: the version number is 0.MINOR.PATCH. The feed carries the same list.

v0.7.11

  • One address: www.ordinate2d.com now takes you to ordinate2d.com, so sign-in and everything else stay on one address.

v0.7.10

  • Safer community: the forum and the marketplace now hold more kinds of abusive or explicit posts for a moderator to read first, in English, Turkish and Dutch.
  • Credits: a new page lists the open-source parts Ordinate 2D is built on and their licences.

v0.7.9

  • Privacy: we now count visits and unique visitors and which tools are used, so we can improve Ordinate 2D. It is done on our own server with no cookies and nothing that identifies you, and it respects "Do Not Track". You can switch it off on the privacy page.

v0.7.8

  • Clearer terms: a short refund policy page, and rewritten terms, privacy statement and marketplace terms.

v0.7.7

  • Safer sign-in: the bot check on the sign-in page is switched on.

v0.7.6

  • Safer sign-in: the sign-in page can now run an invisible bot check before it sends a code by email.

v0.7.5

  • Forum moderation: a moderator can hide or show a whole thread, remove it (the author is told why by email) and move it to another category, besides pinning and locking.

v0.7.4

  • Dialogs: questions that used to appear in the browser's own grey box (deleting a forum post, signing out everywhere, reporting or withdrawing a marketplace item, a moderator's reason for removing or rejecting) now open in a dialog that looks like the rest of the app, light or dark. Escape cancels, Enter confirms.

v0.7.3

  • Fixed: selecting text in a dialog's field and letting go of the mouse outside the dialog no longer closes it.

v0.7.2

  • Save: Save (the button, File → Save and ⌘S) updates the item in My Assets when the scene came from there; any other scene asks once whether to save to My Assets or download a file. My Assets has an Update from Open Scene action on every scene and an Update button for the open scene's item. File → Download as a File always downloads.
  • Marketplace: an item whose text or file has a link that does not go to Ordinate 2D waits for a moderator, and moderators now see which words or links made it wait before approving.

v0.7.1

  • Fixed: the Publish dialog told trusted authors that a new version is checked first; it is published at once unless its text is held.

v0.7.0

Summary: the launch build.

  • Forum: a thread is counted as viewed once per reader per day; the word check also catches words split by spaces or dashes.
  • Vertical video: the animation export has a Shape setting: vertical 9:16 for TikTok, Reels and Shorts, portrait 4:5, square 1:1 and wide 16:9. The vertical frame follows the mechanism, not the floor.
  • New example: Warren Truss under a changing load.
  • Marketplace safety: a new author's first item is read by a moderator before it is public; later items and versions are public at once unless something is flagged; a Report button on every item, and items reported by several accounts are hidden until a moderator looks.
  • Heavy scenes: Play and Step now ask before running a scene whose bodies overlap in more than 20,000 pairs, and a run pauses itself when one step takes over a second, so a pile of overlapping bodies cannot freeze the tab.
  • Fixes: a scene file can no longer ask for more solver substeps than the studio offers; the website and marketplace headers fit a phone.

v0.6.10

The community forum arrives, with replies shown as a tree.

  • Community forum: plain-text threads and replies in Announcements, Help, Ideas, Show your scene, Bugs and Other. Replies are shown as a tree with lines, and you can fold a branch.
  • Reply under a post answers that post; "Post a reply" answers the thread.
  • Links: the forum is linked from the website, the marketplace, the documentation and the studio's Help menu (Community Forum, Report a Bug).
  • Emails about your posts (approved, or allowed to post again) have the same design as the sign-in email.

v0.6.9

  • Forum: Reply under a post answers that post; Report is open to every reader and shows "Reported" afterwards.
  • Moderation page with tabs and clear actions for the moderators.

v0.6.8

  • Fixed: the last post of a thread was squeezed into a narrow column.
  • Renaming your account renames you on the forum, old posts included.

v0.6.7

  • The forum, redesigned: a top bar with the logo, a sidebar with coloured categories, a topic table with replies, views and activity, a categories page and a composer that slides up from the bottom.
  • A new account is asked for its display name; your first post joins the forum.

v0.6.6

  • The community forum, first version: threads and replies in plain text, share links as the only links, reports, and a moderator who reads a new member's first post.

v0.6.5

  • Courses are now called Groups (Host and Member). The Group button opens a member's group library; on Free the group libraries are available, My Assets stays Pro.
  • Publish to Marketplace dialog redesigned.

v0.6.4

  • Fixed: Shift, Alt, Ctrl and Cmd take effect in tools without moving the mouse.
  • Groups: "Add items" opens from a button in the tab bar; Share to Group shows a preview of the scene and folder chips; no stray scrollbar.

v0.6.3

  • Polish: switching My Assets locations or group tabs no longer reloads the dialog or page; dividers under folder headings in a group library.

v0.6.2

  • Fixed: "Use another account" on the checkout page now signs out first (it signed you straight back in).
  • Redesigned sign-in email, with richer sign-in and checkout pages.

v0.6.1

  • Yo-yo runs on a guide (no more swinging). Bridge the river removed (too close to Bridge the gap).
  • A marketplace script opens in a new scene of its own, and Run shows the script's scene beside it.
  • The energy audit runs on the open scene.

v0.6.0

Marketplace: a second set of official items.

  • 12 scenes: Archimedes, Leaving the Dome, the Yo-Yo, Recoil, Apparent Weight in a Lift, Block on a Board, Simply Supported Beam, Brachistochrone, Pendulum Wave, Galton Board, Cars over Bumps, Chain Reaction.
  • 8 challenges (two with new checks: a fragile egg and a minimum time), 6 parts, 6 materials, 6 Python scripts.
  • Slipping, then Rolling: both bodies show their spin; a ring's rotation line runs from the centre like a disc's.

v0.5.1

  • Fixed: opening several Research scenes (for example from the marketplace) no longer cuts the window into thinner and thinner strips. New scenes open as tabs, every scene's Graphs share one strip, and that strip follows the active scene.

v0.5.0

  • Six new examples: the Monkey and the Hunter, the Chase, an oblique billiards collision, rod and point mass, orbits, slipping then rolling.
  • Marketplace and My Assets redesigned: filters with counts on the left, search and sort, removable filter chips; "Newest" lists the newest first. My Assets: Recent or Name sort, a ⋯ menu per item, double click to open.
  • Sharing: embed sizes, copy feedback, thumbnails.
  • Escape closes dialogs. Drop a scene file on the studio to open it.

v0.4.0

Free and Pro.

  • Free is the physics tester: build, run, step, scrub, and the official templates.
  • Pro adds graphs and tables, every annotation, every export, the presenter, gears and drives, exam variants, Python, the cloud library and publishing. On Free these show a padlock and an upgrade dialog. Manage a subscription in Account.
  • The time bar, graphs and exports work in both modes.
  • New website pages: Features, For teaching, Examples.

v0.3.2

  • Force Vectors: the labels sit just past each arrow again (no backing); the colours from 0.3.1 stay.

v0.3.1

  • Force Vectors: torques are drawn in the ink colour (rolling resistance was orange like friction); labels are moved apart so they do not cover each other.
  • A rope made with the Rope tool shows its pull on a body as the tension T, at its true size.
  • A body's Show switches follow the View menu unless set for that body.

v0.3.0

  • Standard gravity (9.80665 m/s²) everywhere; the separate 9.81 preset is gone (a scene saved with 9.81 keeps it and shows Custom). "Custom" can be picked in World → Gravity and Atmosphere. Air density has no upper limit.
  • Force Vectors: a colour for each kind of force, torques drawn as arcs.
  • Properties → Show: velocity, forces and contacts for one body.
  • A falling body is never removed while it is on screen, and only 50 m below the lowest support (it was 12).
  • The version shows in the status bar.

v0.2.0

  • Free-body diagrams: View → Force Vectors draws every force on each body where it acts (weight, contact, friction, cables, joints, loads, air), even while paused. Arrow lengths follow the size of each force and labels are kept apart.
  • Gravity presets with their known digits; atmosphere and gravity show "Custom" for a typed value.
  • A note on phones that the studio is made for a computer.
  • A script from elsewhere runs in a new scene instead of changing the one you built.
  • Fixed: fast bodies no longer pass through a rope.

v0.1.0

First version, for friends to test: the studio, accounts with Google sign-in, My Assets, share links, the marketplace and the documentation.

What we are thinking about

Ideas, not plans: no dates and no promises.

  • More complex mechanisms among the examples (a trebuchet and others).
  • Help text of its own for the remaining generic tool tips.
  • Objects of your own in a local library.
  • A tool that works from the theory side: formulas first, then solving them against the scene.
