The marketplace
The marketplace at ordinate2d.com/market has scenes, challenges, parts, materials and Python scripts made by Ordinate 2D users. Everything in it is free. From Ordinate 2D (with a ✓) are the examples and a set of official challenges (each one tested with a solution), parts (a cart, a pendulum, a mass on a spring, a seesaw, and parts with outlines of their own: an L-bracket, a cup, a hook, a T-beam) and materials (aluminium, copper, glass, PTFE, oiled metal and cartilage, with friction from a standard textbook table).
Using an item
In the studio, Home → Marketplace (or File → Marketplace…) lists the items: search, filter by kind and topic, sort by newest or most used. Every item also has a page on the website with a player, so you can try it before you take it.
- A scene opens as a new tab: your own copy.
- A challenge (Play) opens as a puzzle: see Challenges.
- A part: Use places it in the open scene (click to place, R turns it); Open a Copy opens it in its own tab to change it.
- A material: Use adds it to the scene's materials and gives it to the selected body; Open a Copy also opens its test scene.
- A script goes into the Script tab. It never runs until you press Run.
What you take is copied into your scene, so the scene keeps working if the author changes the item or withdraws it. The scene remembers what it took: scene Properties → Credits lists each item with its author and licence.
Challenges
A challenge is a scene with a goal: bring a body into a green goal zone and keep it there for a moment, within a time limit, using only the tools the challenge allows and at most so many parts. Opened, it is in play mode: a banner over the scene says the goal, the tools and the parts you have used; the scene's own bodies, joints and ropes are fixed (they cannot be moved, changed or deleted), and the other tools are off. Build, press Play, and the banner says Solved in 3.2 s with 3 parts! or that time is up; Stop puts the scene back to try again. Edit on the banner leaves play mode.
Making one: in any scene, scene Properties (click empty space) → Challenge → Make a Challenge. It takes a moving body as the one to bring and adds a goal zone in the middle of the view: move and size it like a box. Set the goal in a sentence, how long the body must stay in the zone, the time limit, the part limit and the tools a player may use, then Play the Challenge to try it. Save it to My Assets and publish it: a scene with a challenge is published as a Challenge, and it opens in play mode for everyone.
Licences
Each item has one licence, shown on its page:
- CC BY 4.0: use and change it, also commercially, with credit to the author (the Credits line is that credit).
- CC0: use it for anything; no credit needed.
- Ordinate 2D standard: use it in any scene and figure you make, including papers, books and lessons; do not resell or republish the item itself.
Publishing
Sign in, then in My Assets choose Publish… on a scene, part, material or script. Give it a name, a one-line summary, a description, a topic, tags and a licence. The first time you also choose the name shown as the author (your email is never shown) and accept the terms for uploads.
- Versions are kept as they are. To change an item, publish it again as a new version of it; the page lists every version with its notes.
- Moderation: your first items are checked by a moderator before they appear. Once one is approved you are trusted, and your later new items and new versions appear at once. Text with certain words, or with a link that does not go to Ordinate 2D, is checked first, whoever you are (the item keeps showing its last approved version meanwhile), and moderators can still hide an item or stop an author.
- My Items (in the Marketplace dialog) shows each item's status, a moderator's note if there is one, and lets you edit the details, open your author page, or Withdraw an item.
- Anyone signed in can Report an item. When several people report it, it is hidden until a moderator has looked. Moderators can remove an item or stop an author from publishing; the author gets an email with the reason.
- Up to 100 items per author, 50 versions per item, 10 new items or versions a day; a picture is at most 1600 × 1600 pixels.
