Account, My Assets and sharing
An account is optional for testing the physics: the studio works without one. You need it to keep items in the cloud, to share links, and to subscribe to Pro.
Signing in
Sign in (top right of the studio, or on the website) opens the sign-in page: continue with Google, or type your email address and enter the six-digit code we send, or open the link in the same email (either works once, for 15 minutes). There is no password. A new address creates your account. The button then shows your initial; its menu has Account…, which opens your account page (ordinate2d.com/account) in a new tab:
- Profile: your name, your email, when you joined and last signed in.
- Membership: your plan, the next payment or the date Pro ends, Manage billing (card, invoices, monthly or yearly, cancelling) and the offers to get Pro.
- Security: how you can sign in (email code or link, Google), every browser you are signed in on with Sign out for each, and Sign out everywhere.
- Privacy and data: your cloud library's size, shared links, groups and marketplace items, Download my data (everything stored about you, as a file) and how we handle it.
- Delete account: removes your account and everything stored with it at once, and cancels a subscription.
My Assets
Home → My Assets is your library of scenes, projects, parts, materials and scripts.
- This device (the default): kept in this browser. Nothing is sent anywhere. Clearing the browser's site data removes it.
- Cloud (signed in): kept in your account, on every device you sign in on. Up to 100 MB and 1,000 items.
- A folder on your computer (Chrome, Edge or Opera): on This device, Link a Folder… and choose a folder. My Assets then keeps new items there as ordinary files: a scene or project as
.physics.json(File → Open opens it too), a part as.part.json, a material as.material.json, a script as.py, and a My Assets folder as a real subfolder. Your own backup and sync (Time Machine, OneDrive, Dropbox) keep them like any other file, and files you put in the folder yourself show up too. Nothing is uploaded. The browser asks you once more before the studio may use the folder on a later visit (Allow Access). If a file was changed outside the studio, for example on another computer through Dropbox, saving asks whether to keep yours, open theirs or save a copy. To Folder copies an item from this browser into the folder; To Device copies one back. Unlink Folder stops using it and leaves the files where they are. Safari and Firefox cannot link a folder; there My Assets stays in the browser.
Save Open Scene Here (or File → Save to My Assets) saves the open scene, a project of several scenes, or the Script tab's code, with a name and a folder. Saving the same scene again (⌘S, the Save button or File → Save) writes a new version of the same item; in the My Assets window an item's menu has Update from Open Scene… and the toolbar an Update “name” button for the item the open scene came from. If it was changed in another tab or on another device meanwhile, you choose: keep yours, open theirs, or save a copy.
Each item can be opened, renamed, moved to a folder or deleted. Upload to Cloud copies a device item to your account; To Device copies a cloud item to this browser. Search and the kind and folder filters find things quickly.
Groups
A group is a shared library for any set of people: a class, a tutor and their students, a study circle, a lab. A host makes it and sends an invitation link; members follow the link, sign in (it is free) and join. The host fills the group's library with scenes, parts, materials and scripts, and everyone in the group opens them in the studio with one click.
Groups have their own page: Account menu → Groups…, or ordinate2d.com/courses. Making a group is part of Pro (or a Course plan); joining one is free.
- Your groups: the groups you host and the ones you are a member of, each with its people and library size. Join with a link takes a pasted invitation; New group makes one and takes you to its invitation.
- Library: search, filter by kind and folder, and Open in studio. Items are grouped by folder, and members see a New mark on what changed since their last visit. Hosts add files by dropping or choosing them (a scene, part, material or
.pyscript) or from the studio with the scene open: Home → Group (also File → Share to Group): pick the group, a folder and an optional note. They can Edit details (name, folder, note) or remove items; Open and edit an item in the studio and Save updates it for everyone. Members who opened an item keep their own copy. - People: the hosts and, for hosts, every member with their email. Only the owner changes roles or hands the group over (Make owner; the old owner stays a host and may then leave); hosts can remove members. Members see the hosts and themselves, not each other. The owner cannot leave or delete their account without handing over: deleting the account deletes the group.
- Invite: the link, Copy, and for the owner New link (the old one stops working) and Turn off. Anyone with the link who signs in joins as a member: they can open and copy the library, nothing else.
- Settings (owner): the name, a welcome text shown at the top of the group and on the invitation, and Delete group. Everyone else sees About with Leave this group.
The invitation page (a link from a host) shows the group, who hosts it and what is in it before anyone joins.
The group library also appears in the studio's My Assets as a place of its own beside This device and Cloud.
Share links
Home → Share (or File → Share Link…) makes a link to the active scene that anyone can open and play, without an account:
- The link opens the scene in a player: the scene's name, Play, Restart, the steps (if annotations are staged), Full screen and Open in Ordinate 2D, which gives the visitor their own editable copy.
- It is a snapshot: later changes to your scene need a new link. A script in the scene never runs in the player.
- Your links are listed in the Share dialog with how often each was opened. Unshare stops a link at once. Up to 50 links.
Embedding
The Share dialog also gives the code to put the player on another page — a course site, a blog, a learning platform:
<iframe src="https://ordinate2d.com/embed/…" width="800" height="500"
style="border:0;max-width:100%" allow="fullscreen" allowfullscreen
title="Atwood machine (Ordinate 2D)"></iframe>
Privacy
Scenes saved to a file or to this device never reach us. Items you upload and shared links are stored with Cloudflare in your account until you delete them; shared links can be opened by anyone who has the link but are not listed or shown to search engines. The details are in the privacy statement.
